Back to Workflow Monday #9: Backing up Lightroom Catalogs
biz & tips  |  OCT. 5, 2009

Time for more cool workflow tips!! This week I'll help you tackle one of the most important things you can do, back up your Lightroom catalogs!

Lightroom catalogs are simply collections of meta data that store all your image adjustments, collections, keywords, applied presets, etc. and point to your digital negatives located elsewhere.

Unfortunately Lightroom catalogs become corrupted from time and hard drives will eventually crash, ouch!! I know, it's a harsh reality - but setting up a few simple things in Lightroom can insure your hard work is safe and sound every time. So learn the secrets to backing up your Lightroom catalogs here and enjoy peace of mind ever after.

Forgot to mention in the video: Each time you back up your Lightroom catalogs a new date and time stamped folder will be created in the destination folder you designated. You'll want to check back and delete these old backup folders once in a while in order to save hard drive space.

Come on back next week for an awesome Photoshop burning and dodging tutorial. Hint: not with the burning and dodging tools ;-)
